How to root the Galaxy Note T879

Requirements
- T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note SGH-T879
- A Windows PC
- Handset USB drivers installed on the PC. You may install the drivers by installing Samsung Kies.
- Enable USB debugging on your handset.
- Disable antivirus, firewall, and other security software. Also disable Samsung Kies and other software that accesses your phone. Such software can interfere with the procedure in this guide.
- Download the following files to your computer:

- Rooted stock UVLG3 system image for the T879 (tmob-system.img.tar, 960 MB)
- Odin 1.85 (Odin 1.85.zip, 199 KB)
- Make sure your device’s battery still has at least 70% power. You don’t want the device to shut down in the middle of the procedure.
- Backup all personal data on your phone to make sure you have a copy of your personal data (e.g., contacts, SMS, MMS, Internet settings, Wi-Fi passwords, and the like) in case the procedure in this guide erases such data.

Instructions
- 1. Extract Odin 1.85.zip into a folder on your computer.
- 2.Right-click Odin3 v1.85.exe and then select Run as Administrator from the context menu.
- 3.Turn off the phone.
- 4.Connect the phone to the computer using the USB cable.
- 5. Press the Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons on the phone together until you see the warning screen.
- 6. Press the Volume Up key to go into Download Mode.
- 7. Go back to Odin and check if it has detected your phone. It should have the message “Added!!” in a message box.
- 8.Click the PDA button in Odin.
- 9. Select the file tmob-system.img.tar to load it into the PDA tab in Odin.
- 10. Make sure the “Repartition” option is not ticked.
- 11.Click Start in Odin.
- 12.Wait until you see the “PASS” message in Odin.
- 13. The phone will reboot and then you can disconnect your phone.
- 14. If the process fails or if Odin gets stuck in initializing or freezes, disconnect the phone and redo everything from step 3.
