MOTOROLA Q9 message problem solved. Solution here!

problem: cannot open message

solution: HARD RESET
procedure:

Turn device off
Press and hold the "E" and "Z" keys
Press Power button once
When screen comes on, let go of "E" and "Z"
Press Power button once again.

There should be a black message atop the screen saying reset activated.

Then wait several minutes while it resets itself to factory.
